Suzanne’s Personal Journey with Reactive Dogs

Suzanne’s passion comes from lived experience. After successfully rehabilitating her own formerly reactive dogs—Max, a Fox Red Labrador, and Batman, a French Bulldog—she deeply understands the challenges owners face. This personal journey fuels her dedication to helping other dogs and their families find peace.

Understanding and Addressing Reactivity

Reactive dogs often display behaviors such as leash pulling, lunging, barking, snapping, jumping up, and sometimes redirect biting onto other dogs, or their owner. This behavior is typically rooted in fear, anxiety, or over-excitement, not true aggression, but it is very hard to tell the difference when you are the one holding the leash, or on the other side of the leash. Suzanne's approach focuses on understanding the root cause of these behaviors, educating you on how and why, giving you a better, yet gentle tool to walk with. Teaching you how to communicate gently, confidently and effectively thorough the leash. Teaching you how to become a loving leader inside and outside of your home, so that you can relieve the pressure that your dog is feeling and displaying. We use clear communication and protocols that allow your dog to learn to process their fear differently.

The Building Trust on Leash (BTL) Method

Our unique Building Trust on Leash (BTL) method is a gentle yet highly effective approach to modifying dog behavior. Inspired by Natural Horsemanship and the Trust Technique, this method emphasizes clear communication and fostering a Loving Leadership on and off the leash. Unlike traditional methods, we do not use treats as distractions, prong collars, stimulation collars, or harsh corrections. Our goal is to help your dog trust your guidance, allowing for connected, calm walks, I like to say Peace on Leash.

🐾 On-Leash Reactive Dog Boot camp

II offer my Reactive Dog Boot Camps on a monthly basis , typically one in San Diego County, and one in Orange County. This is an intensive weekend boot camp that allows us to work in an environment of people and dogs, faced with the same challenging behavioral issue. Nothing causes a reactive dog, to react, than another reactive dog. We need to be able to have an environment that allows for this new method to be practiced and perfected, without judgement and shame from other people that do not understand, or struggle with this behavior.

🐾 Private 1-on-1 Sessions

Personalized dog training sessions tailored to your dog's specific needs, addressing their specific type of reactivity, and their specific triggers. Owner education, and in home evaluation to determine if there are other factors contributing to the reactivity. The Training sessions are typically 1 to 1.5 hours and I come to you. Typically 2 to 4 sessions are recommended.

Success Stories: Real Results

  • We have a 3-year-old Frenchie named Clarkson who was very dog reactive. We had been to numerous other trainers in Sherwood, Portland, and Carlton. We had been working with him since he was less than 6 months old and didn’t seem to be making much progress. We reached out to Suzanne, and the change we have seen in Clarkson over the past 2 months has been life-changing!! We cannot say enough about the amazing, practical approach that Suzanne takes. She truly gets to know your pup very well and builds great trust and rapport with them. In addition to Clarkson, we also have a pug who is one and a half years old. She recently went through level 1 Obedience with Suzanne, and it was fantastic as well. We recommend that anyone needing help with their dog(s) reach out to Suzanne, as she will be able to assist them regardless of the issue.

  • We did one session with Suzanne for my dog with leash reactivity. My dog already turned a corner with our first session. For the next week we did homework with her and practiced what we learned with training and within less than a week she was walking on the leash like a completely different dog. It didn’t even take 2 full sessions for her to help us with our girl having leash reactivity. I am so thankful that I was able to meet Suzanne and see how wonderful of a person and dog trainer she is. She truly does have an amazing gift. If you need an amazing miracle worker don’t think twice about contacting her! And not to mention her prices are very very reasonable. You can tell she really enjoys and loves what she does. I am so so thankful that I found Suzanne to be my trainer!

No need to make excuses when you leash walk your dog if they are pulling you down, barking, are unsettled, or whatever. Suzanne will help to guide you, providing the tools you'll need so you and your pup can be the team you always wanted to be. I think dog training is another type of insurance to help ensure good behavior whenever we are out together, and we are forever grateful for this!
